Tour De France 2015 Stage 14

Britain's Steve Cummings launched a superb sprint attack with 2km remaining to win stage 14 of the Tour de France.

The MTN-Qhubeka rider, 34, was part of a 20-man breakaway and held off France's Thibaut Pinot to record the biggest win of his career.

Britain's Chris Froome finished the 187.5km stage from Rodez to Mende ahead of Nairo Quintana and Vincenzo Nibali.

The Team Sky rider extended his overall lead to three minutes and 10 seconds, with Movistar's Quintana now second.

BMC's Tejay van Garderen slipped to third in general classification, three minutes 32 seconds behind Froome.

Former Team Sky rider Cummings was in tears at the end, earning victory a first Tour de France win for his South Africa team, who were offered a wildcard in this year's race.

Cummings said: "The last few years I thought I was capable of doing this, I just needed to find the right team to get an opportunity.

"The team has stayed calm and they kept confidence in me - they knew I could deliver.

"With 3km to go I was riding fresh, [Pinot and France's Romain Bardet] were full gas and I took advantage. To be honest I wasn't thinking of the win, more the effort, and then I thought I had a chance. I threw caution to the wind."
