Super League 17th to 20th March 2016

Sunday's games

Huddersfield 26-46 Catalan

Jodie Broughton ran in three of six second-half tries against 12-man Huddersfield to help Catalans Dragons to victory at John Smith's Stadium.

Richie Myler and Glenn Stewart tries put Catalans 12-0 up before Jake Connor responded and Dragon's Krisnan Inu was sin-binned for his dangerous tackle which ended Eorl Crabtree's day.

Leroy Cudjoe ran in one of three tries to put Giants 20-12 up at the break.

Catalans then ran riot after Joe Wardle saw red for a high hit on Remi Casty.

Hull KR 44-30 Salford

Hull KR ran in seven tries as they beat Salford to secure their first Super League win of the season.

An early try by Craig Kopczak put the visitors ahead, but scores from Maurice Blair, Iain Thornley, Graeme Horne, Ken Sio and James Greenwood put Rovers in control at 30-6 at the break.

Josh Griffin's two tries and one from Greg Johnson gave the Red Devils hope but Ryan Shaw extended the hosts' lead.

Kopczak got his second try before Matty Marsh scored Rovers' seventh.

The two-point win moves Hull KR off the bottom of the table above Wakefield and Huddersfield into 10th place and is James Webster's first victory since being appointed interim head coach.

Winger Josh Mantellato returned after a five-match absence with a torn retina and scored 16 points with the boot as well as impressing in the loose.

Salford centre Griffin has now scored in five Super League games in a row but the Red Devils have lost three of the last four games.

Friday's games

Warrington 56-12 Castleford

Warrington Wolves went level on points at the top of Super League with an 11-try victory over Castleford Tigers.

The hosts scored seven first-half tries as Chris Sandow, Kevin Penny and Tom Lineham went over inside 15 minutes.

Two tries from Matthew Russell, added to by Ryan Atkins and Ben Currie, saw Wolves open a 38-0 half-time lead.

Sandow grabbed a second try, before Joel Monaghan and Gadwin Springer got Cas on the board, while Brad Dwyer, Lineham and Currie sealed the win.

Warrington, who have won all six of their league games this season, went ahead when Sandow's pace got him to the ball following an angled kick and Penny finished off a well-worked move from right to left before Russell and Rhys Evans combined to set up Lineham.

Russell then went over twice from close range, Atkins barged over and Currie - on his 100th career appearance - raced in on the left-hand side.

The barrage continued after the break as Australian half-back Sandow jinked through for his second try, before Cas finally got some points on the board.

Monaghan, facing his former club for the first time, finished off a sweeping move from the right and Springer powered over, with Luke Gale's conversions pushing Castleford's tally to 12 points.

Dwyer twisted in for Warrington's ninth try and Lineham scored his second when he collected Sandow's kick as Warrington hit 50 points.

Currie raced in for his second try and Kurt Gidley took his personal tally to 12 points with his sixth successful goal in the final minute.

Leeds 30-18 St Helens

Leeds Rhinos picked up their second victory of the season by beating St Helens in Super League.

Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Adam Cuthbertson and Liam Sutcliffe put the hosts 16-0 up after only 12 minutes.

Scores from Kyle Amor, Luke Walsh and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook then put the visitors ahead, before Carl Ablett's try gave Leeds a 22-18 half-time lead.

Ash Handley's try edged Rhinos further ahead as St Helens lost for only the second time this campaign.

Reigning champions Rhinos took an early lead when Jones-Buchanan, on his 300th Super League appearance, went over after Handley intercepted a St Helens kick.

After Cuthbertson stormed over from close range, Sutcliffe ran 30 metres for the home side's third try when Amor miscued a bobbling ball.

St Helens finally got on the board when a short pass from Walsh found Amor to score between the posts.

Saints went over again as Walsh danced through to touch down, while McCarthy-Scarsbrook opened Leeds up down the middle as the visitors edged in front.

But just as St Helens seemed set for a half-time lead, Ablett went over with the last play of the half for Rhinos as he burst through two tackles.

A cagey second half saw Handley time his run to perfection to meet Beau Falloon's kick for Rhinos' fifth try and St Helens were unable to mount another comeback.

Hull FC 22-4 Wakefield

Mark Minichiello scored two tries as Hull FC beat Chris Chester's Wakefield to record their third Super League victory in six matches this season.

Minichiello put Hull ahead in a tight first half, before Joe Arundel replied for the struggling visitors.

Hull opened up a 16-4 lead at the break as Minichiello grabbed a second try and Curtis Naughton went over soon after.

Carlos Tuimavave's second-half try was added to by Marc Sneyd for his third conversion from four attempts.

New Wakefield coach Chester initially watched from the stands, but did head down to the touchline as the Wildcats crashed to their sixth defeat of the season.

For Hull, it was a good response following last week's 46-6 defeat at Widnes, a result which prompted the players to ask the coaches to leave the dressing room so they could hold their own debrief.

Minichiello opened the scoring for Hull when he crashed over next to the posts, with Sneyd converting.

Arundel went over near to the left touchline as Wakefield hit back within eight minutes, although Liam Finn put his conversion attempt wide.

But Minichiello scored his second try from close-in and Frank Pritchard freed Naughton to go over for the final score of the half.

Danny Washbrook's fine feed saw Tuimavave go over and Sneyd converted from in front as Hull went 22-4 ahead for a lead they never relinquished.

Thursday's game

Wigan 12-18 Widnes

Widnes Vikings remain top of Super League with a comeback victory at third-placed Wigan Warriors.

The hosts led 8-0 and seemed in control at half-time thanks to tries from Liam Farrell and Josh Charnley.

Matt Whitley reduced the arrears just after the break, before Charnley ran in for his second try and Wigan looked set to replace Widnes at the top.

But two tries in two minutes from Stefan Marsh and Charly Runciman saw Widnes go two points clear at the top.

The victory made it a best-ever start to a Super League season for Widnes and inflicted a first home Super League defeat on Wigan for 21 months.

Wigan took the lead when Farrell intercepted Joe Mellor's pass to run 70 yards to score, but Matty Smith pulled his conversion to the left.

Wigan forced a way to the line for their second try and Dan Sarginson's pass found Charnley to roll over in the left-hand corner, although Smith's attempt at goal drifted to the right.

Warriors' eight-point half-time lead was cut to two when a great pass from Mellor saw Matt Whitley go over and Rhys Hanbury added the extras.

Corey Thompson fumbled with Widnes approaching the try-line and Wigan made them pay as Charnley ran in for his second after Widnes allowed a high kick to bounce.

Two tries in two minutes turned the game on its head as Marsh ran in on the left-hand side, followed by Hanbury splitting the Wigan defence to send Runciman in to score under the posts.

Hanbury's conversion stretched the visitors' lead to four points and then added a penalty to make it 18-12 - and secure Widnes a sixth win in seven matches.
