Newcastle 3-41 Exeter
Exeter Chiefs scored six tries to record an emphatic 41-3 win over Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership this afternoon.
The home side were the first on the scoreboard as Mike Delany added a penalty to edge Newcastle in front early on, but the lead was short-lived as the visitors started to dominate. Former Falcons player Will Chudley got the first try of the afternoon for Chiefs, charging down a kick before leaping over, while Julian Salvi was also across a couple of minutes later for his first Chiefs try, powering over the line after a maul.
Exeter continued to get stronger as half time approached, with Don Armand adding two tries before the interval, either side of a Matt Jess effort, as he slid across to mark his 100 appearance for the team with a try.
Newcastle thought they had a try back at the start of the second half as a string of passes helped the home side work the ball from their own try line to send Belisario Agulla over, but a knock on in the build up saw the effort chalked off. The visitors finally got the first points of the second half on the board inside the final 15 minutes as Moray Low squeezed his way over after a long spell of pressure from Exeter.
Sale 20-13 Northampton
Sale Sharks have clinched a 20-13 win over Northampton Saints in Sunday's Aviva Premiership clash at the AJ Bell Stadium. The hosts got their first points on board in the 17th minute when Danny Cipriani scored a penalty following a high tackle on Mike Haley from Luther Burrell, before adding another three points five minutes later.
Just after the half-hour mark Stephen Myler restored parity with two penalty kicks of his own in quick succession, but Sam James's try and Cipriani's subsequent conversion ensured that the first half ended with Sale in the lead. Will Addison increased the home side's lead just after the restart after gathering an up and under before running unopposed over the try line, before Cipriani once again added the points with his boot for a lead of 20-6.
Though Myler grabbed seven points through a try and conversion in the 53rd minute to put Saints within seven points of their opponents, Sale hung on to clinch the win and condemn their opponents to two defeats in their opening three Premiership games.
Leicester 24-16 Wasps
Leicester Tigers have secured a convincing 24-16 win over Wasps in Sunday's Aviva Premiership clash at the Welford Road Stadium.
The hosts opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Vereiniki Goneva crossed over on the left, before Owen Williams added two points with his boot. The 23-year-old added a further six points in the half through penalty kicks, but opposite number Jimmy Gopperth struck nine points with his boot for a half-time score of 13-9.
Tigers found themselves out of sight after the restart, however, through another penalty from Williams and a 60th-minute try on the right from new signing Telusa Veainu. Lorenzo Cittadini ran in a try late on, with Gopperth adding between the posts, but it proved too little too late as Tigers hung on for the win.
