Tomas Berdych remains in contention for a spot at the ATP World Tour Finals in London after reaching the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters by sealing a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Feliciano Lopez.
Lopez lost his opening service game, but he continued to battle until he found his first break in the ninth game of the first set.
Despite fighting back to 5-5, Lopez lost his serve which handed Berdych a one-set lead in France.
After edging in front, the momentum swung in Berdych's direction as he grabbed a swift double break in the second set.
Lopez managed to convert a break point of his own, but it failed to trouble Berdych as he managed to see out the set to wrap up the contest.
Anderson bt Wawrinka 6-7, 7-5, 7-6
Stan Wawrinka has suffered defeat at the third-round stage of the Paris Masters having fallen in three sets to Kevin Anderson.
The third seed, who has already safely qualified for next month's World Tour Finals in London, was edged out 7-6(2) 5-7 6-7(3) this afternoon.
Both men held their serve in the opening set which ensured that a tie-break would be needed to separate them, with Wawrinka holding his nerve to take an early advantage in the match.
The second looked to be heading a similar way as the two held serve once more, although Wawrinka lost his service game in the 12th game to see the contest levelled up overall.

Anderson prevailed in the decider when he came out on top in the tie, having already squandered two match points to end the contest.
It was not to matter, though, with the South African now poised to meet either Tomas Berdych or Feliciano Lopezin the quarter-finals.
Murray bt Dimitrov 6-3, 6-3
Andy Murray has finally secured a place at the ATP World Tour Finals by beating Grigor Dimitrov in the third round of the Paris Masters.
The British number one, who has played for six straight weeks, earned a 6-3 6-3 victory over the Bulgarian to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament in France.
Murray, who lost to Dimitrov during the defence of his Wimbledon title in the summer, grabbed the first break of serve in the opening set.
Dimitrov failed to create a break-point opportunity of his own as Murray went a double break up to clinch a one-set lead in Paris.
The two-time Grand Slam champion continued to dominate on the court as Dimitrov lost his opening serve of the second set.
That single break proved to be enough for the Scotsman as he wrapped up the contest to push him into the final eight.
Ferrer bt Verdasco 6-1, 6-2
David Ferrer has booked his place in the quarter-finals of theParis Masters courtesy of a straight-sets victory overFernando Verdasco.
The world number six came out on top 6-1 6-2 in less than one hour to keep his hopes of reaching next month's World Tour Finals alive.
Verdasco lost serve on a couple of occasions in the first set, which allowed Ferrer to get a foothold on proceedings.
It was a similar story in the second, as Ferrer broke his compatriot three times to ease into the final eight.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Kei Nishikori, who meet later today, await in the next round.
Nishikori bt Tsonga 6-1, 4-6, 6-4
Kei Nishikori has stunned Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a 6-1 4-6 6-4 victory to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters.
Tsonga suffered an early blow in the first set as Nishikori swiftly went a double-break up in France, with the home favourite struggling to find his feet.
The 29-year-old created just one break point opportunity throughout the entire set as he lost serve once again and Nishikori claimed the lead.
The Japanese pro struggled to bring his lethal edge into the second set as Tsonga was stronger on his service games, the third of which he saved four break points in.
Tsonga took the only break of the second set to draw level and push the contest into a decider in Paris.
Both competitors held serve well, but it was Nishikori who found the breakthrough to snatch the win and progress into the final eight.
Raonic bt Bautista-Agut 7-5, 7-6
Milos Raonic will contest for a place in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after beating Roberto Bautista-Agut 7-5 7-6[7] in the third round.
It was a tight contest between the pair as games went by the way of serve, with neither player creating a break point until Raonic struck to take a one-set lead in France.
Bautista-Agut battled to win his first break point in the second set, but Raonic immediately broke back to keep proceedings equal.
A further break up for both opponents resulted in the set going to a tie-break, which the Canadian edged 9-7 to ensure his place in the next round.
Federer bt Pouille 6-4, 6-4
Roger Federer has secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters after a 6-4 6-4 victory over Lucas Pouille.
After a fairly even opening period, the Swiss veteran broke serve when both players were at 3-3, before dominating the ensuing game and securing the first set without too much difficulty.
Pouille, just 20 years of age, matched Federer in the early stages of the second set thanks to a powerful serve, but again, Federer broke serve with the set at 3-3, despite two unforced errors.
From then on, it was plain sailing for the 33-year-old, who sealed the victory by chasing up a deep serve and passing Pouille with a neat half-volley.
Federer will face seventh-seed Milos Raonic in the next round of the competition.
Djokovic bt Monfils 6-3, 7-6
Wimbledon champion and world No 1 Novak Djokovic has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters, seeing offGael Monfils 6-3 7-6 to secure a tie against Andy Murray.
The Serbian veteran started brightly, going 3-0 up after just nine minutes, and despite wavering in the ensuing games, sealed the set when Monfils smashed a forehand return into the net.
The second set proved a tighter affair, but despite both players evenly matched going into the decisive game, Djokovic held firm to secure the victory and a quarter-final match-up with the 2013 Wimbledon winner.
The result means that there are no more French players in the competition.
