Berdych bt Anderson 6-7, 6-4, 6-4

Tomas Berdych has sealed a place in next month's ATP World Tour Finals in London following a 6-7[4] 6-4 6-4 victory over Kevin Anderson in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters.
Both competitors lost their serve once, which resulted in the opening set being decided with a tie-break and Anderson was able to edge it 7-4.
Berdych struck instantly in the second set by grabbing a break point and that was all that he needed in order to draw level on sets.
The Czech stumbled in the decider by losing his serve, but then managed to bounce back to break his opponent twice and secure a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Raonic bt Federer 7-6, 7-5

Roger Federer's chances of snatching Novak Djokovic's world number one ranking have taken a hit after he suffered a 7-6[5] 7-5 defeat to Milos Raonic in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters.
It was a tight contest in the opening set with both games going the way of serve, but Roanic came closest to finding the first break.
A tie-break was needed to decide the opener, and despite breaking early on, Federer relinquished the set and was pushed on the backfoot.
Once again, both players were strong on their service games until Raonic converted a crucial break point to give himself the edge in the second set.
The Canadian, who had never beaten Federer prior to this game, needed to just hold serve to win the match and he did so successfully to secure a place in the final four.

Djokovic bt Murray 7-5, 6-2

Novak Djokovic has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after beating British number one Andy Murray 7-5 6-2 this evening.
Murray came under pressure early in the first set as the world number one made him face break points in his opening service game, but the Briton held serve.
The Scot served to take the opener to a tiebreak, but his first double fault of the match gave his opponent two set points, and he clinched the second when Murray sliced the ball into the net.
It looked like Djokovic would cruise to the win early in the second when he had three break points, but Murray dug deep to hold, before going a break up himself in the next game.
The top seed struck back straight away though before taking a break of his own, leaving Murray to serve to stay in the match at 5-2 down.
Murray battled to try and keep himself in the match, but a string of unforced errors gave Djokovic match point, which he secured when the British player failed to clear the net with a backhand.

Nishikori bt Ferrer 3-6, 7-6, 6-4

Kei Nishikori has secured his place at the ATP World Tour Finals after coming back from a set down to beat David Ferrer and progress to the Paris Masters semi-finals.
The World number six has looked in ominous form, wrapping up the first set 6-3 and heading for a place in the last four.
Ferrer looked set to wrap up the match as he led 5-2 in the second set tie-break. However, Nishikori produced a late rally to snatch the set.
As both players looking to make a decisive move in the deciding set, the World number seven broke the Spaniard in the ninth game thanks to some powerful groundstrokes.
Nishikori then sealed his quarter-final victory against Ferrer, who misses out on an automatic place at the end-of-season ATP Finals in London.

NBA 2014/15 Thurs 30th Oct

The Cleveland Cavaliers have made a losing start to the NBA season, being beaten by the New York Knicks in their first game since re-signing LeBron James.
The four-time MVP struggled on his return to the side that drafted him, making just five of his 15 shots for 17 points, as well as committing eight turnovers.
Kyrie Irving did help the Cavaliers to a strong start, as they led by seven at the end of the first quarter, butCarmelo Anthony hit his stride before half time to lead the Knicks back for their first win of the season.
The Los Angeles Clippers began life under new owner Steve Ballmer with a narrow victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, who knocked the Clippers out of the playoffs last season.
Russell Westbrook helped the Thunder make a bright start, but the guard sustained a hand injury in the second quarter which prevented him from featuring further.
The Clippers edged ahead before the break, but were unable to open up a lead of more than 10 points, butBlake Griffin made a pair of free throws in the final seconds to make sure of the victory.
The Dallas Mavericks dominated the first half to set up a comfortable win over the Utah Jazz in their first home game of the season.
The visitors could not cope with their opponent's pace early on, as the Mavericks powered to a 16-point advantage in the opening 12 minutes, which the Jazz never threatened to overturn.
Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons led the scoring for Dallas, both finishing the game with 21 points, while JJ Barea came off the bench for a late cameo, making his first appearance since returning to the team as part of an off-season trade.
The Washington Wizards held off a strong finish from the Orlando Magic to secure their first win of the season.
After a finely-balanced first half, the Wizards started to pull away in the third quarter, before Nikola Vucevic led the home side's on a comeback, but John Wall added a string of late points to put the win beyond doubt for Washington.
The Minnesota Timberwolves made a strong start to the second half to set up a narrow win over the Detroit Pistons, bouncing back from defeat in their opening game of the season.
Detroit fought hard late on as they tried to avoid starting the campaign with back-to-back losses, but Thaddeus Young made a three-pointer inside the last two minutes to end the Pistons' hopes.
Results in full: Washington Wizards 105-98 Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons 91-97 Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks 95-90 Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz 102-120 Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder 90-93 Los Angeles Clippers

Berdych bt Lopez 7-5. 6-3

Tomas Berdych remains in contention for a spot at the ATP World Tour Finals in London after reaching the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters by sealing a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Feliciano Lopez.

Lopez lost his opening service game, but he continued to battle until he found his first break in the ninth game of the first set.

Despite fighting back to 5-5, Lopez lost his serve which handed Berdych a one-set lead in France.

After edging in front, the momentum swung in Berdych's direction as he grabbed a swift double break in the second set.

Lopez managed to convert a break point of his own, but it failed to trouble Berdych as he managed to see out the set to wrap up the contest.

Anderson bt Wawrinka 6-7, 7-5, 7-6

Stan Wawrinka has suffered defeat at the third-round stage of the Paris Masters having fallen in three sets to Kevin Anderson.
The third seed, who has already safely qualified for next month's World Tour Finals in London, was edged out 7-6(2) 5-7 6-7(3) this afternoon.
Both men held their serve in the opening set which ensured that a tie-break would be needed to separate them, with Wawrinka holding his nerve to take an early advantage in the match.

The second looked to be heading a similar way as the two held serve once more, although Wawrinka lost his service game in the 12th game to see the contest levelled up overall.
Anderson prevailed in the decider when he came out on top in the tie, having already squandered two match points to end the contest.
It was not to matter, though, with the South African now poised to meet either Tomas Berdych or Feliciano Lopezin the quarter-finals.

Murray bt Dimitrov 6-3, 6-3

Andy Murray has finally secured a place at the ATP World Tour Finals by beating Grigor Dimitrov in the third round of the Paris Masters.
The British number one, who has played for six straight weeks, earned a 6-3 6-3 victory over the Bulgarian to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament in France.
Murray, who lost to Dimitrov during the defence of his Wimbledon title in the summer, grabbed the first break of serve in the opening set.
Dimitrov failed to create a break-point opportunity of his own as Murray went a double break up to clinch a one-set lead in Paris.
The two-time Grand Slam champion continued to dominate on the court as Dimitrov lost his opening serve of the second set.
That single break proved to be enough for the Scotsman as he wrapped up the contest to push him into the final eight.
Ferrer bt Verdasco 6-1, 6-2

David Ferrer has booked his place in the quarter-finals of theParis Masters courtesy of a straight-sets victory overFernando Verdasco.
The world number six came out on top 6-1 6-2 in less than one hour to keep his hopes of reaching next month's World Tour Finals alive.
Verdasco lost serve on a couple of occasions in the first set, which allowed Ferrer to get a foothold on proceedings.
It was a similar story in the second, as Ferrer broke his compatriot three times to ease into the final eight.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Kei Nishikori, who meet later today, await in the next round.

Nishikori bt Tsonga 6-1, 4-6, 6-4

Kei Nishikori has stunned Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a 6-1 4-6 6-4 victory to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters.
Tsonga suffered an early blow in the first set as Nishikori swiftly went a double-break up in France, with the home favourite struggling to find his feet.
The 29-year-old created just one break point opportunity throughout the entire set as he lost serve once again and Nishikori claimed the lead.
The Japanese pro struggled to bring his lethal edge into the second set as Tsonga was stronger on his service games, the third of which he saved four break points in.
Tsonga took the only break of the second set to draw level and push the contest into a decider in Paris.
Both competitors held serve well, but it was Nishikori who found the breakthrough to snatch the win and progress into the final eight.

Raonic bt Bautista-Agut 7-5, 7-6

Milos Raonic will contest for a place in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after beating Roberto Bautista-Agut 7-5 7-6[7] in the third round.
It was a tight contest between the pair as games went by the way of serve, with neither player creating a break point until Raonic struck to take a one-set lead in France.
Bautista-Agut battled to win his first break point in the second set, but Raonic immediately broke back to keep proceedings equal.
A further break up for both opponents resulted in the set going to a tie-break, which the Canadian edged 9-7 to ensure his place in the next round.

Federer bt Pouille 6-4, 6-4

Roger Federer has secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters after a 6-4 6-4 victory over Lucas Pouille.
After a fairly even opening period, the Swiss veteran broke serve when both players were at 3-3, before dominating the ensuing game and securing the first set without too much difficulty.
Pouille, just 20 years of age, matched Federer in the early stages of the second set thanks to a powerful serve, but again, Federer broke serve with the set at 3-3, despite two unforced errors.
From then on, it was plain sailing for the 33-year-old, who sealed the victory by chasing up a deep serve and passing Pouille with a neat half-volley.
Federer will face seventh-seed Milos Raonic in the next round of the competition.

Djokovic bt Monfils 6-3, 7-6

Wimbledon champion and world No 1 Novak Djokovic has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters, seeing offGael Monfils 6-3 7-6 to secure a tie against Andy Murray.
The Serbian veteran started brightly, going 3-0 up after just nine minutes, and despite wavering in the ensuing games, sealed the set when Monfils smashed a forehand return into the net.
The second set proved a tighter affair, but despite both players evenly matched going into the decisive game, Djokovic held firm to secure the victory and a quarter-final match-up with the 2013 Wimbledon winner.
The result means that there are no more French players in the competition.

NBA 2014/15 Weds 29/10/14

The Miami Heat recovered from a slow start to secure a win over the Washington Wizards in their first game sinceLeBron James's departure.
Having taken a lead in the first quarter, the Wizards fought back late on to cut Miami's lead to a single point, but Norris Cole and Mario Chalmers both made three-pointers in the final minutes to clinch the win.
Derrick Rose returned from injury to help the Chicago Bulls thrash the New York Knicks in their first game under new coach Derek Fisher.
Rose missed most of last season with a torn meniscus, but came off the bench in the second half to add 13 points, while Pau Gasol finished with 21 on his debut for the team.
Carmelo Anthony kept the Knicks in contention in the first half, but had little impact in the third as Chicago opened up a 24-point lead.
The Los Angeles Lakers slipped to their second defeat in as many nights with a heavy loss at the Phoenix Suns.
The visitors fell 14 points by the end of the first quarter, and despite a 31-point game from Kobe Bryant LA were unable to get back into the game.
Goran Dragic made sure that the Suns ended any hope of a Lakers comeback in the third quarter, scoring 12 of his 18 points straight after the break as Phoenix built up a lead of 29 points.
The Charlotte Hornets secured their first win since changing their name from Bobcats, edging out the Milwaukee Bucks in overtime.
Kemba Walker, who signed a new contract with the team earlier this week, led the team with 26 points, and also made a block with five seconds left to prevent the visitors from completing their comeback.
The Indiana Pacers needed a strong second half performance to secure a victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Sixers had a narrow lead heading into half time following a bright start by Nerlens Noel on his NBA debut, but Roy Hibbert led the Pacers fightback in the second half, finishing the night with 22 points.
The Oklahoma City Thunder slipped to a heavy defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers, despite a 38-point game from Russell Westbrook.
The Thunder, who are without injured MVP Kevin Durant, made a bright start, opening up a five-point advantage in the first 12 minutes, but LaMarcus Aldridge found his feet in the second half to lead the Portland comeback.
Rajon Rondo led the Boston Celtics to a comfortable victory over the Brooklyn Nets to get their season off to a winning start.
Having sat out the pre-season with a broken hand, the guard passed a late fitness test to score 13 points and have 12 assists, while Kelly Olynyk finished the game with 19 points.
The Toronto Raptors held off a strong fourth-quarter comeback from the Atlanta Hawks to finish their opening game with a win.
DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry gave the hosts a lead, but their shooting accuracy dropped in the second half to let the Hawks back into the game before DeRozan added a couple of free shots late on to clinch the win.
The Houston Rockets secured back-to-back wins at the start of the new season with a nine-point victory over theUtah Jazz.
Dwight Howard put his scuffle with Kobe Bryant behind him to lead the team with 22 points, which was enough for the Rockets to hold off a third-quarter charge led by Alec Burks.
Steve Kerr made a winning start to his career as Golden State Warriors coach, as his side cruised to a win over the Sacramento Kings.
The home side kept the scores close in the first half, but dominant shooting displays from Stephen Curry andKlay Thompson ensured that the Warriors pulled away in the second half.
Marc Gasol scored a career-high 32 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to their first season-opener win since 2000.
The Timberwolves had a narrow lead at the start of the fourth quarter, but Memphis finished strongly, with Gasol making a 21-foot shot with just over a minute to play to ensure that they started the season with a win for the first time in 14 years.
The Denver Nuggets needed a strong finish to ensure that they got off to a winning start against the Detroit Pistons.
The hosts edged ahead in the first quarter, but were unable to extend their advantage until the final period whenTimofey Mozgov and Kenneth Faried made sure of the victory.

ATP World Tour Paris Masters Day 1 & 2

First Round Robredo bt Pospisil 6-3, 4-6, 7-6

Tommy Robredo has reached the second round of the Paris Masters thanks to a three-set victory over Vasek Pospisil.

Robredo's disappointment of losing to Andy Murray in Sunday's Valencia Open final looked to be a distant memory early on as the Spaniard broke serve and saved three break points on his way to taking the first set 6-3.
However, Canadian world number 54 Pospisil worked hard to find a break midway through the second before closing it out 6-4.
There was little to separate the two men in the decider as service breaks were exchanged to force a tie-break, but it was Robredo who eventually came through 6-3 4-6 7-6(5) to set up a meeting with sixth seed Kei Nishikori

2nd Round Verdasco bt Simon 6-3, 3-6, 6-4
Fernando Verdasco defeated home favourite Gilles Simon 6-3 4-6 6-4 to advance through to the third round of the Paris Masters this afternoon.
It was expected that Simon would win the encounter, but Spaniard Verdasco claimed the opening set in just 33 minutes thanks to one break of serve.
Simon rallied in the second set to force a decider, but he was unable to build upon that momentum.
In putting himself 5-4 in front, Verdasco appeared to roll his ankle, but that did not hamper him as he broke in the next game to wrap up the victory in five minutes short of two hours.
The 30-year-old will now face either David FerrerDavid Goffin or Lukas Rosol in the next round.

Anderson bt Giraldo 6-4, 7-6
Fourteenth seed Kevin Anderson reached the third round of the Paris Masters by edging out Santiago Giraldo in straight sets this evening.
Anderson made the first break of the match in the third game but was pegged back by Giraldo instantly before making the decisive break three games later to go 4-3 in front.
From there, the South African was assured on serve and clinched the opener 6-4 at the second time of asking.
In the second set there was not a single break by either man and it would have to be decided in a tie-break.
Anderson had two match points at 6-4, but Giraldo saved them both before opening up the chance to level the match at one set apiece.
He couldn't take it, though, and eventually Anderson came through 10-8 in the breaker to reach round three in the French capital.
Next up in the last 16 will be either third seed Stanislas Wawrinka or Dominic Thiem.

Djokovic bt Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-4.
Novak Djokovic is into to the third round at the Paris Mastersfollowing a straight-sets win over Philipp Kohlschreiber this evening.
It looked like it would be a quick night's work for the world number one when Djokovic quickly opened up a 5-1 lead over the German in the opening set.
However, Kohlschreiber got a break back against the Serb while he was serving to wrap up the set, but it only delayed the inevitable, as Djokovic saw it out next time around.
The Wimbledon champion was on the attack again at the start of the second, returning strongly to get a break on the board in the opening game.
Kohlschreiber pressed hard late on to try to get the break back, taking a couple of his opponent's service games to deuce with his dominant backhand, but he could not bring up a chance to level the set.
As a result, Djokovic was able to comfortably serve out the match, setting up a third-round meeting with eitherGael Monfils or John Isner.

Berdych bt Mannarino 6-4, 6-7, 6-2
Tomas Berdych has avoided an upset in the second round of the Paris Masters thanks to a 6-4 6-7 6-2 victory over Adrian Mannarino.
It was a solid start from both players as they quickly found their rhythm on serve, but Berdych would soon apply the pressure to force Mannarino to save four break points in the sixth game.
However, the Czech ace would hit back again to break his opponent and take the first set 6-4.
Mannarino's errors on serve opened the door again early in the second set, but Berdych was unable to take advantage of his rival's struggles.
A tie-break was needed to split the two, and a couple of big ground strokes from Mannarino allowed him to level the scores with a 7-3 success.
The Frenchman was broken in the first game of the decider, but he responded impressively to break back immediately as Berdych lost his serve for the first time in the match.
Mannarino's weakness was clear as Berdych broke twice more to take complete control midway through the third set.
The world number five refused to offer Mannarino, who was unable to hold his serve in the decider, any hope of staging a comeback as he served out to take the match and continue his bid to win a second title in Paris.

Wawrinka bt Thiem 6-4, 7-6
Stanislas Wawrinka has booked his place in the third round of the Paris Masters with a straight-sets win over Austria'sDominic Thiem.
The third seed opened up a 2-0 lead early in the opening set, but Thiem broke back in the seventh game on his way to making it 4-4.
Wawrinka then saved a break point before going 5-4 up, and the Australian Open champion was able to close out the set 6-4 with another break late on.
The Swiss squandered a match point in the second, but he eventually sealed his progress 6-4 7-6(6) to set up a meeting with Kevin Anderson in the next round.

Raonic bt Sock 6-4, 5-7, 7-6
Milos Raonic has avoided a surprise defeat in the second round of the Paris Masters thanks to a three-set win over American Jack Sock.
A cagey opening set went the way of seventh seed Raonic, who broke his opponent late on before closing it out 6-4.
It was a similar story in the second as both men gave little away on serve, but this time it was Sock who found a break to take it 7-5.
A resurgent Sock wasted three break points in the decider and he was made to pay as Raonic came through 6-4 5-7 7-6(4) with just over two hours on the clock.

Bautista Agut bt Gasquet 6-4, 6-2
Roberto Bautista Agut has seen off Richard Gasquet in straight sets to make it through to the third round of the Paris Masters.
Both men showed plenty of resistance in the opener as break points proved hard to come by, but 11th seed Bautista Agut broke late on to win the set 6-4.
The Spaniard then took control in the second by moving into a 4-1 lead before he sealed his progress 6-4 6-2 with little fuss.
Bautista Agut will now face Milos Raonic in the next round following the Canadian's hard-fought victory over Jack Sock.

Ferrer bt Goffin 6-3, 2-6, 6-3
David Ferrer's hopes of reaching the ATP World Tour Finals in London remain alive after he grabbed a 6-3 2-6 6-3 victory over David Goffin.
The Spaniard, who needs to win the tournament in France in order to seal a place at the O2 in London, will continue his campaign in Paris in the third round.
The opening set was a close contest between the pair, with games going by the way of serve until Ferrer went a break up in the fourth game.
Goffin failed to convert a break point in response and Ferrer eventually went on to take a one-set lead in Paris.
The 23-year-old Belgian bounced back in the second set by breaking his opponent's serve twice, while Ferrer struggled to cope and was forced to relinquish the set.
Both players lost their opening serves in the deciding set and Goffin was able to hold off a charge from Ferrer by saving three break points in the fifth game.
The momentum swung in the Spaniard's direction when he grabbed a crucial break point before securing victory.

Murray bt Benneteau 6-3, 6-4
Andy Murray is edging closer to qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals in London after securing a 6-3 6-4 victory overJulien Benneteau in the second round of the Paris Masters.
The Scotsman, who has been competing for six straight weeks, can seal his place at the O2 Arena in the UK capital just by reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament in France.
This afternoon, Murray raced to a 2-0 lead in the opening set by grabbing the first break of serve, which was all that was needed for him to scoop a one-set lead within 30 minutes.
Murray continued dominating the contest by going a break up instantly in the second set and doubled his efforts to take a 4-1 lead, but Benneteau battled to a break of his own after the British number one saved an initial three break points.
Despite the brief wobble, Murray was able to see out the set for victory.

Lopez bt Querrey 6-4, 6-4
Feliciano Lopez has advanced to the third round of the Paris Masters with a straight-sets win over Sam Querrey.
The American qualifier beat Jerzy Janowicz in the first round, but could not produce another shock as Lopez overcame an early deficit to win 6-4 6-4 in France.
Querrey broke at the first attempt to move into a 2-0 lead before losing his next two service games to hand the momentum to Lopez, who never looked back as he closed out the first set in 32 minutes.
The Spaniard wasted two break points in the opening game of the second, but would not let Querrey escape again when he had him on the ropes in game three as he clinched a break at the fourth time of asking.
The world number 14 did not give Querrey the chance to reply as he recorded a comfortable victory.

Dimitrov bt Cuevas 6-0, 6-3
Grigor Dimitrov is safely through to the third round of theParis Masters thanks to a straight-sets victory over Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas.
The world number 11 was in sizzling form during the opening set, breaking his opponent three times to clinch it 6-0 with just 25 minutes played.
Dimitrov had to face two break points early in the second as Cuevas threatened to fight back, but he managed to save them before coming through 6-0 6-3.
The Bulgarian will now face eighth seed Andy Murray for a place in the quarter-finals.

Federer bt Chardy 7-6, 6-7, 6-4
Roger Federer prevailed in a thrilling three-setter with Jeremy Chardy to reach the third round of the Paris Masters.
The second seed came from 5-2 down to win the opener on a tiebreak, only to miss two match points in the second as the Frenchman levelled at a set apiece.
A break in the first game of the final set proved crucial, though, as Federer battled past the home favourite to record a 7-6[5] 6[5]-7 6-4 victory.
The Swiss maestro secured consecutive breaks to overturn a three-game first-set deficit before Chardy showed his steel to immediately break back and force a breaker which Federer won 7-5.
The second set was full of closely-contested games, but went with serve throughout as Chardy twice kept the match alive in the 10th game, and took the tiebreak by the same scoreline which Federer won the first.
Despite the Paris crowd being behind him, the world number 30 could not take his momentum into the decider as Federer replied strongly to break in game one of the third set, at the fourth attempt.
Chardy refused to roll over as he denied the 17-time Grand Slam champion a second break in game five, but Federer would not give the Frenchman a way back in and closed out victory in two hours and 32 minutes.

Pouille bt Fognini 7-6, 7-6
Fabio Fognini has suffered a shock defeat to world number 176 Lucas Pouille in the second round of the Paris Masters.
Both players dropped serve twice in the opening set before Pouille seized the initiative by taking a tense tie-break 7-5.
Fognini powered into a 5-2 lead in the second as the Italian fought back emphatically, but it did not last as Pouille rallied to forced another tie-break.
The Frenchman failed to convert a match point before Fognini wasted a break point during the dramatic breaker, only for Pouille to triumph 7-6(5) 7-6(7) to book his place in round three.
However, Fognini was not finished there as he argued with the umpire before leaving the court.

Nishikori bt Robredo 6-7, 6-2, 6-3

Kei Nishikori has advanced through to the Paris Mastersthird round after fighting back to defeat Tommy Robredo in three sets.
The world number seven dropped the first set in the French capital before sealing the win by a 6-7 6-2 6-3 scoreline to move one victory away from sealing a place at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Nishikori squandered two break-point opportunities during a first set dominated on serve, and the US Open runner-up was made to pay as Robredo won the final four points of the tie-break to move ahead.
However, Robredo, who was involved in a titanic tussle with Andy Murray in Valencia on Sunday, appeared to be feeling the effects of his recent efforts and Nishikori easily took the second against the experienced Spaniard.
The deciding set followed a similar pattern to that of the second, and one break was enough for Nishikori to secure a place in the third round against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Tsonga bt Melzer 6-2, 4-6, 6-2

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has progressed into the third round of theParis Masters with a three-set victory over Jurgen Melzer.
The 10th seed appeared to have lost his momentum during the second set before eventually prevailing 6-2 4-6 6-2 in front of his home crowd.
Tsonga looked on course for an easy night's work after breaking Melzer three times on the way to taking the opening set, but the 33-year-old, who has dropped down to number 122 in the world rankings, had other ideas.
The left-hander took advantage of Tsonga's struggles on his second serve to break twice in succession to force a deciding set.
However, Tsonga regain his previous form at the start of the third to break Melzer for a fifth time in the match, and that was enough for the 29-year-old to advance through to the last 16 where he will play Kei Nishikori.

Monfils bt Isner 6-4, 7-6

Gael Monfils has delighted his home crowd with a straight-sets victory over John Isner at the Paris Masters.
The 28-year-old coped well with the threat posed by the American's big serve to run out a 6-4 7-6 victor to move into the third round.
The Frenchman created as many as eight break-point chances against Isner in the opening set, but one conversion was enough to move closer to the next stage.
Isner saved the one opening that he gave his opponent during the second, but Monfils, who currently resides at number 21 in the world rankings, controlled the tie-break to confirm his place in the last 16.
Monfils will play Novak Djokovic in the pick of the ties to be played on Thursday.

NBA 2014-15 Tues 28/10/14

Orlando Magic 84-101 New York Pelicans: Anthony Davis has led the New Orleans Pelicans to a comfortable 101-84 win over the Orlando Magic in their opening game of the 2014-15 NBA season.

The top pick in the 2012 Draft finished the game with 26 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocks to help the home side pull away from Orlando in the second quarter.
The visitors had made a bright start to the game, leading by six points midway through the first quarter before Davis and Omer Asik started to lead the Pelicans fightback.
Once New Orleans took the lead in the second period, the Magic never looked like getting back on level terms as the hosts surged to a 23-point lead before Orlando pulled a few points back late on.
Tobias Harris finished the game as the Magic's top scorer, adding 25 points in his 37 minutes on the court, while center Nikola Vucevic picked up 23 rebounds.
Orlando play their first home game of the season tomorrow against the Washington Wizards, while the Pelicans are back in action on Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks.

Dallas Mavericks 100-101 San Antonio Spurs: The San Antonio Spurs have started the defence of their NBA title with a narrow 101-100 win over the Dallas Mavericks at the AT&T Centre.
The visitors jumped to a lead in the second quarter with Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons both among the points for the Mavericks, but mistakes after the break let San Antonio back into the game.
Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler both argued with the referee to concede technical fouls less than a minute apart, leaving Tim Duncan to close the gap.
Neither side was able to take charge of the fourth quarter, but a three-pointer from Tony Parker with just over a minute to play put the Spurs ahead.
Parsons could have won it at the death for Dallas, but his shot hit the rim with 0.4 seconds remaining to leave the Mavericks a point short.
The Spurs are in action again on Friday at the Phoenix Suns, while the Mavericks host the Utah Jazz tomorrow.

Houston Rockets 108-90 LA Lakers: The Houston Rockets cruised to a 108-90 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in a heated opening game of the season between the two sides in the NBA at the Staples Center.
The visitors looked the stronger of the two sides from the start as they surged to an 12-point lead by the end of the first quarter, with James Harden leading the way.
The Lakers were boosted by the return of Kobe Bryant, who missed most of last season with knee and Achilles injuries, but his 19-point contribution did little to slow down the Houston attack.
Tempers flared in the fourth quarter when Dwight Howard elbowed Bryant in the face as the pair battled for the ball, resulting in their teammates having to separate the two players.
Things got worse for the Lakers moments after the game resumed when rookie Julius Randle tried to add some consolation points for the hosts late on, but he collided with a pair of Rockets players under the basket, leaving the teenager with a broken leg on his NBA debut.
LA have a chance to put the defeat behind them tonight as they face the Phoenix Suns, while the Rockets also play again later against the Utah Jazz.

Four Nations Rugby League ENG V SAM & AUS V NZ

AUS 12-30 NZ: New Zealand have thumped world champions Australia 30-12 in the second match of the Four Nations.

Five tries from the Kiwis appeared to be too much for the Kangaroos, despite the home side's bright start.
Beau Scott scored Australia's first try in the first three minutes giving the hosts the perfect start over their close rivals.
New Zealand matched whatever Australia did as Kevin Proctor levelled the scores up 14 minutes later.
The Kiwis' lead was short-lived as the Kangaroo's went ahead thanks to Greg Inglis's try minutes later.
Lewis Brown brought New Zealand back into the tie at 12-12 after darting through and ghosting into a gap.
The score remained equal at half time but New Zealand were quicker out of the blocks at the restart, as Shaun Johnson was gifted a lucky deflection off an opposition player to sprint through and give the Kiwis' their first lead of the match.
New Zealand capitalised on their lead minutes later as Kieran Foran's cross-field kick was collected by Dean Whare who doubled his side's score at 24-12.
Jason Nightingale rounded off the scoring 10 minutes from time to secure New Zealand's victory over Australia at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

England 32
Tries: Shenton, Watkins, Farrell, Joel Tomkins, Sam Tomkins
Goals: Widdop (6)

Samoa 26
Tries: Liu, Vidot, Godinet (2), Winterstein
Goals: Stanley (3)
England narrowly held on for victory against Samoa in a pulsating Four Nations encounter in Brisbane.
Michael Shenton gave England the lead after being set up by Daryl Clark's first touch of the game, before Isaac Liu barged himself over for Samoa.
Daniel Vidot put the Islanders ahead after scoring in the corner, but Kallum Watkins restored England's advantage.
Wigan's Liam Farrell, Joel and Sam Tomkins all added tries for England in a free-scoring second half.
Two Pita Godinet tries and an Antonio Winterstein score were not enough for Samoa.
Steve McNamara's men will be relieved to achieve victory in the first match of the tournament at the Suncorp Stadium, before going on to face world champions Australia and New Zealand, who play each other on Saturday at the same venue.
The former Bradford Bulls boss will be pleased at his side's kicking game, especially the performances of halves Gareth Widdop and Matty Smith, but will be concerned at the number of errors overall.
The encounter was England's first Test since their agonising 20-18 defeat against New Zealand in last year's World Cup semi-final.
Captain Kevin Sinfield has since retired and debuts were given to Smith, Josh Hodgson, Joe Westerman and Super League Man of Steel Clark.
England's defence stood firm in the first few minutes following early pressure but when they did manage to gain possession, McNamara's men were sloppy, not completing their sets and making poor decisions.
After a scoreless 20 minutes, Clark was sent on to the field and with his first touch for the national side, created the opening try of the game.
The hooker found space at the ruck area and evaded the attention of the Samoan defence before finding Castleford team-mate Shenton who had a clear run to the line. Widdop added the conversion.
Minutes later, the Samoans restored parity through Liu, as the big prop collected the ball through the middle and bundled over between the posts.
Having been behind, the Pacific Islanders took the lead with some smart play, offloading the ball to the right wing where Vidot dived over to score.
The tries began to come more freely after a quiet opening period. England worked the ball with quick hands for the first time and drew the Samoan defence in, as Leeds man Watkins touched down on the right-hand side.
Widdop added the two points as well as a penalty to give England a 14-10 half-time lead.
They extended their lead in the second half with crisp passing, as the new half-back pairing of Widdop and Smith combined to find Farrell who crossed for his first England try.
Matt Parish's Samoan side would not go away though and in fact went ahead in the contest.
Wakefield halfback Godinet embarrassed the England defence twice in the space of seven minutes, bamboozling his markers with dummies to touch down.
However, the see-saw clash went England's way again when Joel Tomkins collected Shenton's knock-down for his first try, while brother Sam took advantage of a dropped ball from full-back Tim Simona to put his side 32-22 in front.
The Samoans came again through Winterstein's effort in the left corner, but despite late pressure, England held on for the win.
